Michele Bachmann says she is mulling a run for US Senate

With Franken's fall the 'Trump effect' could turn Minnesota red — if Republicans embrace him

She's likely to run in the 2018 special election, and The Hill notes Smith would have "virtually unanimous support" from Democrats.

- Prayers-and much public speculation-might be enough to propel Michele Bachmann back into what she calls the "toxic swamp" of national politics. "Should it be now?"

Via Right Wing Watch, Bachmann appeared on Christian broadcaster Jim Bakker's program and said that she has "had people contact me and urge me to run for that Senate seat" that will soon be vacated by outgoing Sen.

His departure sets the stage for current Minnesota Lt. Gov. Tina Smith to be sworn in on Wednesday to take over his seat.

Bachmann has been accused of employing gay conversion therapy at her Counseling Care clinics over the years, and the clinics have been hit with health inspector violations in 2005, 2009 and 2017, according to NBC News.

Democrats spent millions in an attempt to unseat her in Minnesota's sixth district, a traditional conservative stronghold that includes St. Cloud and several northern Twin Cities metro suburbs. But she was also a champion of religious conservatives who was a fierce critic of Obamacare and other policies of former President Obama.

"My husband and I aren't money people", Bachmann said, suggesting that political candidates are now even larger targets for "frivolous lawsuits".
