Obama will join Letterman on January 12 for the launch of the new "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman" on Netflix. Two years later in August 2017, it was revealed that he would be launching a new show with the streaming network.

"My Next Guest Needs No Introduction" marks Letterman's return to the hosting seat following his long run hosting "The Late Show,". He then moved to CBS, where The Late Show With David Letterman aired from 1993 to 2015. The hourlong series will premiere next Friday, and five subsequent episodes will bow monthly through the first half of the year.

Other guests expected on Letterman's new six-episode Netflix series will include, George Clooney, Malala Yousafazai, Jay-Z, Tina Fey, and Howard Stern.

This screengrab shows a preview of David Letterman (R)'s interview with former United States president Barack Obama which will be shown on Netflix. These segments will allow him to "dig deeper" into topics related to the guest featured in the episode.

That title suggests a show that's setting a high bar for booking celebrities with name recognization and Letterman's first guest certainly qualifies: The show will launch with the first post-presidency TV talk show interview with Barack Obama.

Letterman and Obama shared another "first" back in 2009, when the latter became the first sitting president to appear on the "Late Show."

Letterman resigned from his post on the show in 2015 after almost 22 years at the helm.
