North Dakota State claims sixth FCS title in seven years

North Dakota State came into the game looking for revenge after last season's disappointing end. Now returning after a one-year interruption, the Bison will find suburban Dallas a bit more crowded.

The Bison accomplished the task by knocking off No. 1 James Madison 17-13 in Frisco, Texas Saturday. Dukes coach Mike Houston has described the quest for tickets as a contest in itself. After forcing a three-and-out to open the game, the Bison migrated down the field, moving 66 yards in 11 plays and six and a half minutes before scoring on a 3-yard Bruce Anderson run, grabbing a lead North Dakota State would not relinquish. Their résumés in the past half-dozen years include the two longest winning streaks in FCS.

Top-seeded JMU is trying to become just the fourth school ever to win back-to-back FCS championships.

NDSU head coach Chris Klieman says, "I don't know what type of game its going to be".

North Dakota State took over on downs and expired the final 58 seconds to complete its march to a sixth national championship.

This year the teams seem evenly matched in all phases, including the presence of two veteran quarterbacks who have combined to win 62 games. Senior Bryan Schor is 29-3 in his career with the Dukes. "I'm so proud of them". Both teams pound the ground. The Dukes kept on rolling despite being particularly hard-hit on their offensive line.

"Oh yeah, we got a lot of guys coming back". Klieman said the first step in overcoming injuries is expecting them to happen.

"I've noticed in traveling a lot of people will say "well you're from Fargo, that's where the Bison is, right?' and I go 'yeah".

As the wealth of championship banners in Fargo displays, NDSU is football's neighborhood bad boy.

Despite sacking NDSU quarterback Easton Stick - the game's most outstanding player - three times, forcing a fumble, blocking a field goal and executing a late fake punt, the Dukes could not overcome those uncharacteristic blemishes on a unseasonably mild winter day.

NDSU 7 JMU 3 - Ethan Ratke drills a 31-yard field goal with 3:48 left in the first quarter. What a great way to start the year. "And we're busy. We're one of the most popular places in the state of Texas. Imagine having a week where you can double your income for everybody".
