Trump to announce 'fake news' awards

President Trump Announces Delay of Fake News Awards

Speaking on the Late Show on Wednesday, he said: "You know folks, its awards season".

Trump initially announced his intention to name "THE MOST DISHONEST & CORRUPT MEDIA AWARDS OF THE YEAR" (all caps emphasis his) on Tuesday, January 2 - the same day he fired off multiple confounding tweets, including an alarming threat at North Korea that was apparently prompted by a segment on Fox News.

The US President also indicated what kind of award categories the public can expect to see.

Trump has spent the past several days railing against Michael Wolff's book "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House" as a "Fake Book" and inserting himself in an on-air dispute between White House aide Stephen Miller and "CNN flunky" Jake Tapper.

Late-night comedians are desperately competing for President Donald Trump's "Fake News Media" awards by using the same tactic of posting "for your consideration" ads. "Stay tuned!" he tweeted.

Mr Trump dismissed the book as "phony", adding the author "is a total loser who made up stories in order to sell this really boring and untruthful book".

At the bottom of the ad it reads: "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah is so fake even this ad isn't real".

During his tenure as President, Mr Trump has repeatedly claimed the media has been unfair to him.

After sharing his excitement at the prospect of winning an award, the host of The Late Show revealed that he had purchased a "billboard in New York's City Times Square in hopes of increasing his chances of being honored in categories such as "Least Bretibarty", "The Eric Trump Memorial Award for Disappointment" and "Smallest Button".
