Guggenheim offers Trump a gold toilet for White House

Oh heck that one’s still being used in Paris

The museum had installed the toilet "for all to use in the privacy of one of the Guggenheim's single-stall, gender-neutral bathrooms, Spector wrote in a blog post in 2017".

Cattelan, who's been critical of Trump and is known for satirical art, hinted that the golden toilet is representative of excess wealth and income disparity, telling the Post that "America" is "1 percent art for the 99 percent".

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump asked the Guggenheim Museum to loan them a Van Gogh painting for the White House residence, said the Washington Post on Thursday.

"It is, of course, extremely valuable and somewhat fragile, but we would provide all the instructions for its installation and care", Spector wrote to the White House.

A Guggenheim spokeswoman declined immediate comment on the Washington Post report and White House officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

But want to hang some post-impressionist artwork from the Guggenheimin the White House living quarters?

The White House Asked For A Van Gogh, The Guggenheim Offered A Golden Toilet
Donald Trump's Request for a White House Van Gogh Was Swiftly Rejected by the Guggenheim

"It's a very delicate subject", Cattelan, the artist, told the Post when asked why he offered the toilet to the Trumps.

Cattelan "would like to offer it to the White House for a long-term loan", Spector said in the email. "Everything seems absurd until we die and then it makes sense".

"When the sculpture came off view on September 15, Trump had been in office for 238 days, a term marked by scandal and defined by the deliberate rollback of countless civil liberties, in addition to climate-change denial that puts our planet in peril", Spector wrote.

The work was created by contemporary artist Maurizio Cattelan and debuted at the Guggenheim in 2016.

Spector, who is vocally anti-Trump, included a photo of the toilet with her email "for your reference". The piece - which was cleaned every 15 minutes when it sat in the Guggenheim - had a democratic appeal, Cattelan told the New Yorker past year.
