The policemen killed on Tuesday were identified as constables Mushtaq Ahmad and Babar Ahmad. The attackers escaped with the alleged insurgent. Abu Hanzulla, who belongs to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba teror group, was arrested in August 2015 from Kulgam after he and one of his aide attacked a BSF convoy in Udhampur.

According to police, Jat's escape is expected reactivate the LeT's vast network, which has remained dormant after the death of Abu Qasim, Abu Dujana and Abu Ismail.

Police said a nursing orderly of Central Jail Srinagar was also accompanying the six prisoners with medical records. "It was a well planned attack", the official said adding militants had prior information about movement of prisoners.

As claimed by the officials, Jhutt had told his interrogators that he had met Ajmal Kasab who was involved in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

Meanwhile, wreath laying ceremony of Head-Constable Mushtaq Ahmad resident of Dildar Karnah and Constable Babar Ahmad Khan resident of Shangus Achabal was held at PCR Srinagar. In the audacious attack, two policemen died while Naveed escaped in the melee. She described the incident as an act of cowardice "which ought to be condemned by one and all".
