S. Africa's ruling party dismisses reports that Zuma will resign on Saturday

"Just relax", Derek Hanekom, an ANC lawmaker, former tourism minister and one of Zuma's most outspoken critics, said on Twitter.

As pressure grows inside and outside the ANC for Zuma to resign, the president and his deputy have been meeting to discuss a transition of power that Ramaphosa has indicated should not humiliate Zuma or further divide the country of 55 million people.

It is not a stretch to say that the heart of these negotiations centre around granting Zuma immunity.

"Caucus doesn't take a decision who becomes president of the republic. He can't tell us what to do", he said.

The rand, which has tended to strengthen on signs that Zuma could step down before his second term as president ends next year, was firmer on Tuesday.

This followed a caucus meeting held by the party in Parliament.

In the 12-minute recording, Mashatile began talking at length about the ANC election conference in December and how allegations of corruption had clouded the talk around the conference, but that it was "the past" and things were fine.
