Joy Behar mocks Pence's faith as 'mental illness'

Oprah with her arms out

Pence was asked to respond to Behar's comments in an onstage interview with Axios on Wednesday.

It all started when they played a clip from "Celebrity Big Brother", in which former White House staffer Omarosa Manigault Newman discussed the vice president.

That comment was apparently too much for Behar, who said, "It's one thing to talk to Jesus". That's called 'mental illness, ' if I'm not correct. "It is simply wrong for ABC to have a television program that expresses that kind of religious intolerance". "I'm a believer. Like tens of millions of Americans today will have ash on their foreheads to mark the beginning of Lent, [an] overwhelming majority of Americans cherish their faith, and we have all different types of faith in this country".

Allow me to put my two cents in as a person who was raised in a Christian household and attended a private Christian high school that had a daily required religion class for eight years. "It would make my mother mentally ill, my mother, my aunts, my daughter, of course not". It was a joke. "We sit with each other, we don't always agree, and we listen".

After ABC's The View mocked Vice President Mike Pence's Christianity, Pence went on the offensive. "I'm not insulting Christians".

Pence also spoke about how his faith influences his and his wife's life. "He thinks Jesus tells him to say things". "I think I'm a very typical American, whatever your faith tradition, people understand that". "My in-laws are Evangelical, my entire family are devoutly Christian".

"You [addressing Behar] saying that, I think Jesus speaks to me every morning". I don't think he would get re-elected.

She then shifted to a more general conversation about liberals and Republicans, something Goldberg was quick to shut down. "And I'd like to laugh about it, but I really can't". "Except Trump supporters, except gun owners, except for everyone in the red and middle of the country".

"I would like to move forward". I don't think he would want to destroy the environment.

The former IN governor went further to criticize mainstream media for its anti-Christian bias.

Sunny Hostin, another devout Catholic, also said the "notion that we're intolerant is just not true".

The segment ended with Joy adding a quick, "So there", before the show went to commercial.
