Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa in Kabul for high-level military meeting

Pakistan's army chief joins conference in Afghan capital

According to a statement issued here by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the COAS said that regions were developed as a whole, not as individual countries.

Army General John Nicholson, the commander of the Resolute Support mission, and the Afghan Army Chief Gen Sher Mohammad Karimi to attend the top-level meeting. The army chiefs will also look at the region's narcotics trade as Afghanistan hits record levels of poppy production, AP reports. Both Afghan and U.S. officials are ratcheting up pressure on Pakistan to close Taliban sanctuaries on its soil, while Islamabad denies charges that it harbors militants.

He said that collaborative approach and persistence was the answer to all challenges, for which Pakistan was ready to play its part. He signaled that residual signatures of terrorists take advantage of the 2.7 million Afghan refugees and absence of effective border security coordination to launch attacks.

He also assured that Pakistani territory was not allowed to be used against any other country, adding that Pakistan expected the same in reciprocity.

Pakistan has urged Afghanistan to stop the blame game and asked for its co-operation in combating terrorism.

Last August, Trump announced a new strategy for Afghanistan that included increasing troops to up to 14,000 soldiers and a tough stance towards Pakistan, a country that Washington accuses of sheltering Taliban rebels. "Pakistan expects reciprocation in this regard", he said.

Of late, a high-level Afghan delegation visited Pakistan and held the second round of talks on Afghanistan-Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity (APAPPS).

Last week, the Afghan deputy foreign minister led a delegation of senior civilian and military officials to Islamabad for crucial talks on enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
