Mitt Romney Reportedly Launching a Campaign to Become Senator of Utah

Mitt Romney announces bid for Utah Senate seat

"Visit www.mittromney.com to be one of the first to know!"

Mitt Romney, the Republican Party's 2012 presidential standard-bearer, launched his anticipated political comeback Friday by announcing his front-running bid for U.S. Senate with an ode to Utah and a mild swipe at President Trump.

"I've no doubt that Mitt Romney satisfies all qualifications to run for Senate, and as Chairman of the Utah Republican Party, I will treat all candidates equally to ensure their path to the Party nomination is honest and fair".

"I was honored to join Mitt Romney on the national ticket in 2012 and couldn't be happier that he's running for this seat", Ryan wrote.

On Monday, Romney posted a message on Facebook making his intentions obvious.

With Romney's potential arrival in Washington comes notably real tension between him and the man now occupying the Oval Office: President Donald Trump.

In case there is any ambiguity, this seat is Romney's to lose.

The race is to succeed Republican Senator Orrin Hatch, who announced last month he would retire at the end of his term after serving as a U.S. Senator since 1977. Helped by the fact that he's a Mormon, Romney already enjoys high popularity in the heavily Mormon state.

Opponent Jenny Wilson, however, has criticized Romney on Twitter for being non-native to Utah and for representing special interests and wealth.

But Romney doesn't want to talk about any of that, because now, Romney wants to be the next senator from the Beehive State. Moore had been accused by multiple women of preying on them, sexually, as teenagers. After the election, Romney met Trump for dinner and participated in history's most tortured photo-op with the president-elect at the NY restaurant Jean Georges; Romney did not get the secretary of state position he was apparently angling for (though 13 percent of people think he is the secretary of state, according to Pew).

The former GOP presidential nominee distanced himself from President Donald Trump in his announcement, arguing for more pro-immigration policies. Until recently, the former presidential candidate had retreated from the public eye since his electoral loss to Barack Obama in 2012.

"Governor Romney reached out very early in the process and has kept in regular and friendly contact with Senator Lee about his plans", Conn Carroll, spokesman for Lee, told FOX Business in a statement.

Whitehouse said that European leaders do not understand Trump or his motivations, which is why they look to McCain's leadership to reassure them.

In the House, most Republicans have embraced much of Trump's agenda and have worked to protect him from an investigation of Russian efforts to tip the 2016 election in his favor.
