A freaky Parkland conspiracy video topped YouTube's trending list

How to spot fake news

A quick YouTube search for the name "David Hogg" reveals dozens of videos with titles like "David Hogg Can't Remember His Lines When Interviewed for Florida School Shooting".

It and many others claim to "expose" Hogg as a "crisis actor", the term conspiracy theorists use to discount firsthand accounts by people in news stories that they insist are hoaxes.

Numerous comments on the video uploaded by "mike. m" accuse George Soros and news network CNN of planting Hogg at the scene to vilify gun ownership.

Conservative political commentator Dinesh D'Souza has also weighed in on Twitter, suggesting 17-year-old survivor Delaney Tarr's video message to the president was "coached". "Me and my friends worry we are going to be murdered in our classrooms". Here he is in our yearbook from 2015.

The aide was sacked, and the Broward County School District said Hogg and his classmate are "absolutely students at Stoneman Douglas". The clip appears to show footage where Hogg was interviewed about a video he recorded in Redondo Beach, Calif.

Critics also assailed the students for the photos that were taken with a CBS reporter.

Hogg's classmates were quick to defend him. The mugshot reveals a 26-year-old arrested in SC with the same name, and a very similar identity to the Parkland student.

The conspiracy theories first started to bubble up online after far-right outlets began pointing to Hogg's father's status as a retired Federal Bureau of Investigation agent to suggest something nefarious in the student's frequent media appearances.

Others suggest that Hogg graduated from a California high school in 2015, and even showed a yearbook picture of him.

What are the conspiracy theories?

.

Benjamin Kelly, an aide to Republican Florida state Rep. Shawn Harrison, told the Tampa Bay Times on Tuesday afternoon that both Hogg and a fellow student were "actors that travel to various crisis when they happen". Kelly has since been fired. Conspiracy Theorists say it's proof he's not from Florida.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio defended the students and survivors claiming the accusations came from a "disgusting group".

Is David Hogg a crisis actor planted by TV news stations?

'These people saying this is absolutely disturbing.I am not an actor in any way, shape or form. Lucian Wintrich wrote on The Gateway Pundit about Hogg, who is the son of a retired Federal Bureau of Investigation agent.

Students and teachers who survived the shooting will meet the President at the White House on Wednesday to discuss ways of improving school safety and addressing gun violence.

"He is much more-well-spoken than I am", he added.

Speaking of Trump Jr.'s actions, Hogg said: "I think it's a testament to the sick immaturity and broken state of our government when these people feel the need to peddle conspiracies about people that were in a school shooting where 17 people died and it just makes me sick".

"Based on the way those kids are milking the deaths of their peers for careers", said Lucian Wintrich of Gateway Pundit, "it's completely safe to say that they don't care about those lives lost, they only care about their SJW agenda, and the soullessness comes from social media desensitization".
