Toronto police update expected on investigation into accused serial killer Bruce McArthur

Bruce McArthur

The 66-year-old McArthur is already facing murder charges in the deaths of Mahmudi and Kinsman.

Anyone who retained McArthur to do landscaping work or has information has been asked to contact the Toronto police team dedicated to the investigation at 416-808-2021 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477.

The remains of three victims have been identified through fingerprints and dental records so far, Toronto police's lead investigator Sergeant Hank Idsinga said. At the time, Idsinga only identified one set of body parts - those that belonged to Andrew Kinsman.

Navaratnam's remains were among those of six people recovered from planters at a residential Toronto property where McArthur worked as a landscaper, Idsinga said.

The case has evolved with police now looking at "hundreds of outstanding missing persons occurrences" and even "occurrences where there's been a sudden death".

McArthur was charged last month with 49-year-old Kinsman's death, as well as the presumed death of 44-year-old Selim Esen. "We do believe we have multiple murder scenes, though", said Idsinga.

Meanwhile, police continue to search through McArthur's Thorncliffe Park apartment for evidence and have said that they expect to be at the address for the foreseeable future. Both were reported missing from the Church and Wellesley streets area at separate times previous year.

He added that police are tracing McArthur's whereabouts "as far back as we can go". About two weeks later, police laid three more first-degree murder charges related to the disappearances of Kayhan and Mahmudi, as well as the death of Lisowick who had never been reported missing.

McArthur's next court appearance is scheduled for February 28.

Police call McArthur an alleged serial killer and say more victims may be identified.

Police are also looking at two other properties in the city, and have reached out to police forces overseas, where McArthur may have travelled, for help.
