Turnbull ready to move on from Joyce

Nationals MP Andrew Broad has publicly called on Barnaby Joyce to resign as party leader

Speaking to reporters in Washington DC on Friday (early Saturday AEDT) just hours before meeting President Donald Trump at the White House, Mr Turnbull thanked Mr Barnaby for his service as deputy prime minister.

WA Nationals leader Mia Davies says Barnaby Joyce has lost the support of the party in Western Australia because of the "ongoing damage" he is causing the party.

The most recent claim of sexual harassment follows a weeks-long scandal implicating Joyce in an affair with his former media adviser Vikki Campion, with whom Joyce is expecting a baby.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has refused to back Barnaby Joyce to remain as Deputy Prime Minister, as the embattled Nationals leader prepares to face a leadership challenge next week. His decision to stand aside is the right decision for the National Party, the nation and most importantly his family.

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard courted controversy over bringing Pistol and Boo, two pet pooches, to Australia on a private jet in May 2015. This has got to stop.

Joyce's travails deepened when Broad told the ABC on Thursday he had the endorsement of his local branch in the Mallee to call on Joyce to resign the leadership of the National party next Monday.

Turnbull last week spoke on Joyce's affair with Campion and called it a "shocking error of judgment".

"Australians deserve better. The secret Coalition agreement, dealing out positions in the Turnbull government, must be made public".

Australia's beleaguered deputy prime minister resigned from the Cabinet on Friday over allegations that he sexually harassed a woman, but said he would not resign from Parliament.

An uncomfortable monument to Mr Joyce's sex life is the remarkable and often mocked "bonk ban" on minister's and staff.

Mr Joyce, who was first elected to Senate in 2004, said he would not quit the Parliament but, rather, would head to the backbench and continue work on a book and promised "no, I won't snipe".

While he appealed for privacy, the outgoing Nationals leader has remained front page news all week, as a series of questions about his actions during 2017, when he was in an off-on relationship with Campion, his former media advisor.

He was forced out of Parliament previous year and contested a byelection after discovering he was a dual New Zealand citizen and therefore had been constitutionally ineligible for election.

He had asked that the allegation, which he denies, be referred to the police.

Joyce's woes - and his seeming determination to hold on - led to surreal political theater and mounting tensions between Joyce and Turnbull.

With a ballot to determine the fate of the Deputy Prime Minister scheduled for 8pm on February 24, Michael McCormack, the Minister for Veterans Affairs and Defense Personnel, is already tipped to become a frontrunner.
