Wounded Palestinian Teen Cousin of Activist Released Following Arrest in West Bank

Detroit protest demands freedom for Palestinian teenager Ahed Tamimi

Maj. -Gen. Yoav "Poli" Mordechai, the coordinator of government activities in the territories, posted in Arabic on his Facebook page Monday night that the Tamimi family has a culture of "lying and inciting".

There are altogether 20 Palestinians arrested during the raids, including minors and an injured boy.

Mohammed was shot in the head with a rubber bullet the day of Ahed's arrest, leaving him with permanent damage to his skull, relatives say.

His father reportedly pleaded with soldiers who came to arrest him, allegedly for taking part in a protest, but Israeli medics found him "fit for custody".

"What began with a far-fetched attempt to claim that we are not a real family at all has now moved to the denial of documented reality", the Tamimis said.

In a video interview with the Israeli newspaper Haaretz in January, Mohammed had explained that the injury to his skull meant that he would be unable to attend school or leave his house for up to six months. His teenage cousin, Ahed Tamimi, known for spreading anti-Israel propaganda through "Pallywood" clips, was arrested in December after being filmed assaulting an IDF officer; she now faces charges in a military court, where she claims she was reacting to the violence afflicted on Mohammed. She had heard that Israeli soldiers shot her cousin just minutes before. "I could not keep quiet and I responded as I did".

Among those detained is the 15-year-old cousin of Ahed Tamimi, Mohammed Tamimi, who was hit by a rubber bullet fired by an Israeli soldier, also the cause of her altercation with the Israeli police.

Among those arrested was 15-year-old Mohammad Tamimi, who was critically injured due to an Israeli gun shot in the face last December.

Gaby Lasky, who represents members of the Tamimi family including Ahed, said that Muhammad was questioned without the presence of a parent or any other adult.

According to Haggai Matar, an Israeli journalist who reports for the Tel Aviv digital magazine +972, the liquid known locally as "the skunk" is very hard to wash off and can leave a repulsive scent on objects for months. Ahed is now being prosecuted behind closed doors in an Israeli military court that has a conviction rate of over 99 percent.

Mohammed Tamimi's head injury is at the center of a case that has sparked a flurry of criticism against Israel, after Ahed Tamimi, then 16, was arrested for slapping an IDF soldier and put on trial.
