YouTube faces lawsuit after allegedly refusing to hire white or Asian males

Google accused of excluding Asians, whites for some positions

A former YouTube employee has filed a discrimination suit against the world's largest video site, alleging that its policy was to hire zero white or Asian men for tech positions. Wilberg also alleges that over the past two years, YouTube started trying to cover up its diversity hiring practices.

To help prove his allegations, Wilberg included a screenshot of a Google tracking system - which was subsequently deleted - that kept track of candidates' gender and race, pointing out that the company had not reached their goals in respect to hiring female, black and Latinx candidates.

The civil complaint explains how, in his job, Wilberg was tasked with helping to select engineering and tech talent for YouTube and Google.

Arne Wilberg worked at Google and YouTube as a recruiter, contractor, and full-time employee for almost a decade. "Then, in the next email, according to Fortune, the same manager wrote that they should only consider L3s from the underrepresented groups".

"We have a clear policy to hire candidates based on their merit, not their identity".

Lawsuits against the Silicon Valley companies are on the rise as ex-employees come out to speak about the harmful and discriminatory culture prevailing at some of the biggest organizations. As mentioned previously, last month former Google employee Tim Chevalier sued his former employer.

All of this might come as a shock to anyone who hasn't been paying attention to the firing of Google engineer James Damore past year. While Damore fits those descriptions, the lawsuit was also filed on behalf of women and people of color who it's claimed Google mistreated on the basis of one or any combination of those categories. In response, Google CEO Sundar Pichai condemned his views.

The lawsuit follows in the wake of a similar claim in January by former Google engineer James Damore, fired for penning a memo against diversity. He has now filed a lawsuit against the company for wrongful termination.

Google has faced criticism over its diversity practices from both sides: those who say it's not doing enough to include women and underrepresented racial minorities, and those who assert that its efforts go too far. Six months after the conversation he was sacked.

Google has been stung by a number of lawsuits recently.
