The big news Security forces gun down Sunjuwan camp attack mastermind and nine other top stories

On Monday, the Indian army has knocked down the mastermind of Sunjuwan attack Mufti Waqas.

Sources said it was Mufti's second tenure in Kashmir. This has brought about a noteworthy scratch to the plans of Jaish e Mohommad.

On February 10, at around 4:10 am IST; four heavily-armed militants attacked an army camp of the 36 Brigade of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAK LI) at Sunjuwan in Jammu, which housed army personnel as well as their families. He tweeted, "Jaish commander Mufti Vakas has been killed in an encounter at Hatiwara Awantipora".

The Army spokesperson said Waqas was "alone in the area" and there were no civilian casualties during the operation.

He also added that "weapons and incriminating materials like: IED (improvised explosive device) preparation documents were recovered from him".

Waqas's killing has dented the designs of the JeM as it comes after the elimination of the terror group's operational commander Noor Mohd Tantrey in the same area on December 17.

The encounter was carried out on the basis of specific intelligence of his presence at Hatwar area of Awantipora, Hindustan Times reported.

Waqas was also responsible for radicalising local boys Fardeen Khandey and Manzoor Baba who had carried out the suicide attack on the CRPF camp in Lethpora on the intervening night of December 30 and December 31 a year ago. He had earlier infiltrated in 2007 and after spending more than a year he had exfiltrated into Pakistan. A nearby partner of killed diminutive person boss Noor Mohammad Tantray moniker Noor Trali, he had invaded into Kashmir a year ago. "He was Cheif Commander of JEM in J&K & master mind of suicidal attacks of Sunjuwan, Lethpora, Pulwama DPL and BSF at Srinagar airport". Five soldiers and civilian were killed while 10 others including Lieutenant Colonel and a Major were injured in the attack.

Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, a local militant from Seer Jagir in Baramulla district had also taken part in a fidayeen attack in Srinagar city in January 2010.

A "joint specific operation was launched and mastermind of the Sunjuwan terrorist attack and Lethpora terrorist attack, Jaish-e-Mohammed operational commander, category A++" was killed "in a surgical operation", the Army said in a statement.
