Wisconsin added 8000 private sector jobs in January

January unemployment rate in Maine was 3 percent

The Department of Labor says Kansas added 9,100 nonfarm jobs and 7,500 private sector jobs over the past 12 months.

In addition, the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.7 percent in January 2018. Comparatively, the national unemployment rate declined to 4.1 percent from 4.8 percent.

The nationwide unemployment rate of 4.1 percent in January was the same as the previous month. That number is also slightly up from last month's 3.3 percent, though county figures are not adjusted for seasonal job losses.

The federal government spends the start of each year doing a deeper dive on each state's employment data.

Though the total unemployment level in SC rose by 2,299 people from December to January, Buoyea says the figure is still within the "steady range" expected by the state.

The January unemployment report coincides with the U.S. Department of Labor's annual "benchmarking" of unemployment figures, when the year's figures are revised and, in Florida, January and February figures are released withing two weeks of each other.

During the fourth quarter, unemployment rate among people aged between 15-29 years dropped to 24.6 percent from 26 percent a year earlier. California added more than 400,000 jobs while Texas added more than 240,000. Three states set new lows between January 2017 and January 2018: Alabama, 3.7 percent; California, 4.4 percent; ME, 3 percent, and MS, 4.6 percent.

Pulaski County's was 3.7 percent, reflecting an estimated 227 people out of work and a labor force of 6,087.

Counties with the highest unemployment rates in the state were Citrus at 6 percent, up from 5.4 percent in December.
