Broad ready to do damage in New Zealand series

Ben Stokes in action for England

All-rounder Ben Stokes' probable return is likely to be a major determinant in the makeup of his under-fire England team as New Zealand enters the pink ball era with their first day-night Test at home at Eden Park starting on Thursday.

Here's everything you need to know as England complete the winter with against New Zealand in a two-match Test series.

BBC's Test Match Special will provide live ball-by-ball coverage with updates on BBC 5live, the BBC News Channel and BBC Sport Online.

England fast bowler Stuart Broad has not taken a five-wicket haul in over two years but the 31-year-old is optimistic his career is on the brink of another surge in the two-test series against New Zealand. Further troubling England is their recent Test form, having lost the Ashes 4-0 to Australia in December and January.

"That's how I've played my cricket, and (it) actually influenced some of the changes I made in February". If Taylor isn't fit to play, Guptill will take the middle order slot in the batting order.

'Obviously, it was frustrating after the injury in Perth, but you've got to bounce back from that, ' said Overton. He also played only one game in the Plunket Shield this season.

After 75 overs during an acclimatisation hit out in Hamilton last weekend the pink ball "still had the writing on, which is unheard of", Broad said.

Guptill, who had struggled at times during the side's home 3-2 defeat to England in the ODI series, has 47 Test caps to his name, but he played his last match in the longest format of the game during the tour of India in October 2016. However he has 399 Test wickets and should become the 15th player to pass the 400-milestone at Eden Park.

"It's that sort of thinking that's coming into the bowling group rather than just "these two blokes have to take the same new ball - that's how the mantra works", he said.
