New England Patriots Fly Parkland Students to Rally

Five teenagers who survived a deadly Florida school shooting appear on TIME Magazine’s latest cover the publication revealed in a Thursday tweet

The Patriots have helped students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and their families make their way from Parkland, Fla., to Washington in advance of Saturday's "March for Our Lives" against gun violence. Kraft said that he offered up the team plane after Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly reached out to him. Giffords survived getting shot in the head during a public event in Arizona back in 2011. There have been no reports of Patriots players present, and Kraft was not on the plane as well.

"Not only did their friends and teachers get shot and killed, other friends shot and injured. majority they had bullets flying over their heads", he said.

'This is not fair that they have to deal with something like this at their age.

The students and families boarded the aircraft Thursday at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The Patriots debuted two brand-new team planes, both Boeing 767s, during the 2017 National Football League season.

Earlier in the week, some of the more outspoken Parkland students participated in a panel at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government about gun-control. Similar protests are taking place around the country the same day, including in Boston.

Some of the students took to social media to thank the Patriots for their support.

"On March 24, the kids and families of March For Our Lives will take to the streets of Washington DC to demand that their lives and safety become a priority and that we end gun violence and mass shootings in our schools today", the event's website says.
