Sponsors flee Fox host's show amid spat with Parkland student

David Hogg March for Our Lives

TripAdvisor pointed to one of its company values - "We are better together" - in its decision to stop advertising on Ingraham's show.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham apologized to David Hogg after facing a boycott over a tweet.

The success of Hogg's campaign not only showed the reach of this new generation and its awesome management of social media, but it put Ingraham up against the ropes, so she resorted again to the social network to apologize to the student.

According to Vox, the response was immediate and companies like Expedia, Hulu, Johnson & Johnson, Nestle, Nutrish Stitch Fix, TripAdvisor, and Wayfair proceeded to abandon Ingraham.

Amid criticism for pursuing a shooting survivor, on Friday, Ingraham announced that she will be taking a holiday in the coming week, replaced by "a great lineup of guest hosts".

"The comments she has made are not consistent with how we feel people should be treated", the company said. "As always he's welcome to return to the show anytime for a productive discussion".

"It's time to love thy neighbour, not mudsling at children".

Rather than stay mum or go silent, Hogg clapped back at Ingraham by encouraging advertisers to boycott her show. "Although we are an organization that believes in freedom of expression, we do not condone discrimination, bullying, mockery or harmful behavior of any kind", the company told The Hill in a statement.

It all started on Wednesday when Ingraham mocked Hogg, 17, on Twitter for "whining" about being rejected from several colleges.

On Tuesday, TMZ posted the video showing Hogg - who has become a prominent voice for gun control after 17 people were killed in a mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School - as he reflected on a recent string of college rejection letters.

"#ShutUpAndBeObjective", Hogg tweeted later Thursday, playing off Ingraham's previous suggestion that LeBron James should "shut up and dribble" after James criticized President Donald Trump. In a statement provided to HuffPost, Johnson & Johnson said they also plan to pull advertising.

As the student told CNN, "she is only apologizing after a third of her sponsors pulled out".

"We are in the process of removing our ads from Laura Ingraham's program", Nutrish tweeted Thursday morning. She said he was crying about not getting accepted into four major schools despite holding a 4.1 GPA.

Fox News did not respond to multiples requests for comment and Ingraham has not tweeted about the matter since her apology on Thursday. "They are sponsoring someone who will use the next tragedy to attack the most vulnerable", Robinson said.
