Russian FM: Ex-Spy's Poisoning Is A Distraction From Brexit

Britain's Prime Minister Theresa May stands outside a pub as she views the area where former Russian double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter were found critically ill in March

"Regardless of what one thinks about Russian Federation, my study of global law taught me a different way to deal with other states", Laschet, premier of the state of North Rhine-Westphlia, said on Twitter.

The head of Britain's military research center said on Tuesday it was unable yet to say whether the military-grade nerve agent that poisoned a Russian double-agent last month had been produced in Russia.

Testing had shown that it was military grade nerve agent but it could not be shown to have come from Russian Federation, said Gary Aitkenhead, the chief executive of the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory at Porton Down.

"We have not identified the precise source, but we have provided the scientific info to government who have then used a number of other sources to piece together the conclusions you have come to", Aitkenhead said.

The nerve agent had been placed on Sergei Skripal's front door, police said.

Asked about his scientists' findings, Mr Aitkenhead said: "We were able to identify it as Novichok, to identify it was a military-grade nerve agent".

A United Kingdom government spokesperson on Tuesday reiterated Britain's assertion that Russian Federation was responsible for the nerve agent attack, saying that the Porton Down lab's research is "only one part of the intelligence picture".

Russia's envoy to the European Union says British accusations of Russian involvement in the poisoning of an ex-Russian spy could have been an attempt to distract public attention from Britain's troubled exit from the EU.

The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory also responded to Mr Aitkenhead's comments, writing in a series of posts on Twitter: "Our experts have precisely identified the nerve agent as a Novichok".

British officials have previously rejected similar Russian allegations.

"Not the Salisbury poisoning but all the actions".

Military personnel investigating the Skripal attack wear protective suits in Salisbury on March 11, 2018.

On Tuesday, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons said it would hold an emergency meeting on the case at the request of Russian Federation, which is demanding Britain hand over its evidence.

"Yury Filatov, Russia's ambassador to Ireland, says Moscow asked the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons "to call an extraordinary session" at its headquarters in The Hague".

Britain blames Russian Federation for the pair's poisoning with a Soviet-developed nerve agent.

The British authorities are preparing to grant her a visa so that she can become the first family member to meet Yulia, and also see her uncle Sergei, who remains in a coma.

Without providing any proof, London expelled 23 Russian diplomats and suspended all planned high-level bilateral contacts.

Evgeny Buzhinskiy - who served in the Russian military for more than 40 years - said the row between Britain and Putin was creating a situation "worse than the Cold War".

WASHINGTON: expelled 60 USA diplomats on Thursday and announced it would eject scores from other countries that have joined London and Washington in censuring Moscow over the poisoning of a spy.

When asked if there was any realistic possibility of triggering war, a spokesman for Prime Minister Theresa May said: "We need to respond in a proportionate way to this aggressive behaviour from Russian Federation and that's what we're doing".
