Trump threatens to send military forces to guard US-Mexico border

Troops on the border Trump ups ante in immigration battle

He followed up with a reference to the North American Free Trade Agreement, which Trump says is skewed in favour of Canada and Mexico at the expense of the US.

Trump said: "We are going to be guarding our border with our military".

The president fired off several tweets on Tuesday about the caravan march toward the "Weak Laws" border of Mexico. He recently posted on Twitter that Mexico is sending "caravans" of illegal migrants using USA "weak immigration policies".

Organized by a left-wing group called Pueblos Sin Fronteras, or People Without Borders, the stunt is brazen and reckless enough that it might just force USA policymakers to reevaluate America's long-standing-and obviously failed-policy of strategic neglect toward Mexico and Central America.

Trump promised during the 2016 presidential campaign to build a Southern border wall to stop illegal immigration and drugs from Mexico, but Congress has frustrated him by not moving as quickly as he wants to provide money for construction.

Donald Trump and Mexico's President Enrique Pena Nieto arrive for a press conference at the Los Pinos residence in Mexico City. In the omnibus bill signed by Trump last month, $1.6 billion was included for technology and some replacement of existing border fencing - although it excluded the prototypes Trump recently viewed in California.

Trump has been deeply frustrated about the lack of progress building what was the signature promise of his campaign: a "big, handsome wall" along the Mexican border. The President is now publicly discussing deploying U.S. troops on American soil to push his white supremacist agenda. We will be doing things with Mexico and they have to do it, otherwise I'm not going to do the NAFTA deal.

Trump on Tuesday also emphasized his willingness to pull American troops out of Syria, telling reporters, "I want to get out". "That's a big step", Trump told reporters gathered at the White House.

Defense Secretary James Mattis and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen were among those taking part.

It was not immediately clear what Trump was referring to when he said people are coming to take advantage of the program.

But Mujica said he didn't know "if that was just to calm down Donald Trump's tweets, or calm down Donald Trump".

He has also bristled at news coverage of Honduran migrants who have been marching through Mexico in recent days.

He continued: "We can not have people flowing into our country illegally, disappearing, and by the way never showing up for court". "With all of the money they make from the US, hopefully they will stop people from coming through their country and into ours, at least until Congress changes our immigration laws!" he tweeted.

By calling for Republicans to use the "Nuclear Option" to pass tough new immigration measures, Trump seemed to urge a parliamentary procedure by which Senate Republicans could pass legislation with a simple majority of 51 votes as opposed to the 60-vote majority required to end debate and bring a vote to the floor.
