Bundesliga match report Augsburg v Bayern Munich 07 April 2018

MADRID SPAIN- FEBRUARY 14 Marcelo of Real Madrid celebrates scoring the 3rd Real Madrid goal with Zinedine Zidane of Real Madrid during the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 First Leg match between Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain at Bernabeu on Feb

Ancelotti left with his reputation in tatters yet Heynckes said the Italian had played an important role after his side won 4-1 at Augsburg to claim a sixth successive league title on Saturday.

Jupp Heynckes took a gamble today by resting his stars for Bayern Munich's away match at Augsburg where victory will hand the Bavarians a sixth straight Bundesliga title. With the league title now in their pocket, Bayern can fully focus on the UEFA Champions league as they have a 2-1 advantage over Sevilla.

Top scorer Robert Lewandowski, plus Thomas Mueller, Thiago Alcantara, Mats Hummels and Javi Martinez all started on the bench.

Sergio Cordova's shot was saved by Sven Ulreich, but bounced up into the face of Niklas Sule and rolled into the empty net, to make it 1-0.

However, with the hallmark of champions, Bayern hit back to lead at half time through Corentin Tolisso just after the half hour and Colombia worldwide James Rodriguez fired Bayern into the lead seven minutes before half-time.

Augsburg started at pace, closing down any space for the visitors, and the pressure paid off in the 18th minute with an own-goal.

Augsburg's lead was short-lived, however, as - from Bayern's first meaningful attack - Tolisso drifted into the area to head home unmarked from Kimmich's precise cross. Rodriguez slipped the ball home from Juan Bernat's clever backheel six minutes later and the Colombian also set up Robben for the third when he hooked the ball back from the touchline just after the hour.

The Bavarian giants will formally lift the Bundesliga shield after the final day on May 12.

Elsewhere, second-from-bottom Cologne suffered a blow to their survival hopes as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Mainz.

An early goal by Cologne's Germany defender Jonas Hector was cancelled out as Pablo De Blasis headed an equaliser for Mainz five minutes into the second half.

With just two minutes gone at the Schwarzwald Stadion, Wolves striker Daniel Didavi held off his marker and fired past despairing Freiburg goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow.

After a quiet spell to the second half, Bayern extended their advantage on 62 minutes with a thumping strike at the near post.
