Body recovered from site of SUV crash off California cliff

The discovery Saturday could be the first significant break almost two weeks after investigators say the GMC Yukon was intentionally driven off the scenic Pacific Coast Highway.

"The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office is monitoring the ocean conditions to see when further searches might be safely conducted", Barney said.

They could have also been swept away by seawater because no one in the SUV was wearing a seatbelt, officials said.

Jennifer Jean Hart - who was the driver - and her wife, Sarah Margaret Hart, both, 38, were found dead.

The three children whose remains were found at the scene were identified as Markis, 19; Jeremiah, 14; and Abigail, 14. The three other children - Devonte, 15, Hannah, 16, and Sierra, 12 - were still listed as missing.

Authorities believe the body may be that of one of the missing girls from the crash.

A couple spotted the body floating in the surf on Saturday, and another bystander pulled it onto the beach and called the local fire department, who alerted the sheriff's office.

MENDOCINO, Calif. - A body was recovered Saturday in the vicinity where an SUV plunged off a Northern California cliff last month, killing a family of eight in what authorities suspect may have been an intentional crash.

Investigators have also said the SUV's software indicates the vehicle stopped at the highway pullout before it accelerated straight off the cliff, according to The Associated Press. The bodies of Jennifer and Sarah Hart were found March 26 inside their auto at the rocky shoreline below a cliff.

On Friday authorities found a cellphone near the crash site and were investigating the possibility it belonged to one of the family members.

They couldn't make contact with the family after several attempts.
