Royal countdown begins: Kate and William won't know baby's gender until birth

Prince William and Kate waiting until birth to discover baby's gender

Two weeks ago, Arthur Edwards, royal photographer at the British Sun newspaper, posted a picture of fresh paint on the railings outside the Lindo Wing, prompting speculation that it had been chosen for the birth of the Duke and Duchess' third child.

Believed to be due mid April, it's only a matter of time before Kate Middleton and Prince William welcome royal baby number three.

But an insider revealed that Middleton will deliver her third bundle of joy on April 23.

Preparations for the media coverage of the birth begin in earnest on Monday, with crowd barriers going up in the street opposite the Lindo Wing in Paddington, central London, and parking restrictions coming into force in the area.

Guy Thorpe-Beeston, surgeon gynaecologist to the Royal Household, and Alan Farthing, a consultant gynaecological surgeon, are expected to be present at the latest royal birth. He was a pioneer in keyhole surgery and today specialises in using the technique to treat gynaecological cancer patients. It's also where Diana, Princess of Wales introduced Prince William and Prince Harry to the world.

There is free TV, radio, an in-room fridge and wifi, just like any other hotel, and a choice of daily newspaper each morning.

Here's everything you wanted to know about when we can expect to meet Kate and William's third child.

A normal double standard room costs $10,500, plus $2,000 for an additional night, according to the most recent pricing listed online. It's a historic birth for Charlotte, who won't be bumped down the line regardless of the gender of her next sibling. It seems we won't have too long to wait now!

Of course, any birth includes expected flexibility with the exact due date.

It means Prince Harry will be pushed down to sixth.

Kate Middleton leaves SportsAid after undertaking engagements celebrating the Commonwealth at the Copperbox Arena on March 22, 2018 in London, England.

September 18 - The Duchess appears in a video message, backing the You're Never Too Young To Talk Mental Health campaign run by the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families.

Accompanying any royal birth is the traditional easel which is placed in the forecourt of Buckingham Palace.
