Teacher at Florida shooting school arrested after leaving gun in toilet

A discussion on gun violence was held Saturday in Delray Beach

The Broward County Sheriff's Office reported that Simpson accidentally left the gun in the bathroom, and it was already gone by the time he realized his mistake and went back to retrieve the weapon.

In addition, his mother, who died from a respiratory illness, received an annuity of $3,333 in September to an account she shared with Nikolas.

But his lawyers have yet to determine whether the instalments are paid monthly or yearly and whether Cruz is entitled to it.

Simovitch started representing Cruz one day before his alleged February 14 shooting rampage at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that killed 17 and injured 17 others, the Herald said.

"I would love nothing more than to interact with you and your family and provide consolation", she said.

The size of Nikolas Cruz's potential inheritance from his mother's estate has been reported to be as high as $800,000.

Attorney Howard Finkelstein said the probate case involving his late mother's estate has moved slowly, so Cruz's exact net worth can not be determined, but Cruz has one or two annuities.

McNeill and other attorneys representing Cruz said in court last month that even with those assets, Cruz would be hard pressed to find a lawyer willing to take the case with no guarantee of future payments.

The next step is an upcoming court date on April 27, and Judge Elizabeth Scherer said she would rule on Cruz's financial worth before then.

On Wednesday, Cruz's attorneys offered to surrender any money he would inherit to the victims.

The plan, named after the Stoneman Douglas football coach killed in February 14 shooting, allocates $67 million for sheriff's offices affiliated with participating school districts.

His account now at the Broward County Jail sits at $669.18. He faces the death penalty if convicted. The attorney couldn't say why the deposits stopped. "If we go to trial, the victims' families will be connected to the person that destroyed their life".

"Cruz has $353.43", Assistant Public Defender Melissa McNeill told the judge.

The Florida school district home to the Parkland school where a former student gunned down his classmates and teachers officially declined to arm school personnel despite new laws that would fund training and allow certain staff to carry guns.
