A top fundraiser for President Donald Trump resigned from the Republican National Committee today after it was revealed that he paid $1.6 million to a Playboy Playmate with whom he had an extramarital affair.

Michael Cohen helped Elliott Broidy, a venture capitalist and a deputy finance chairman for the Republican National Committee, pay the unnamed model after their relationship ended in 2017 and she informed Broidy that she was pregnant, according to The Wall Street Journal's report Friday afternoon citing unnamed people familiar with the matter. "She alone decided that she did not want to continue with the pregnancy and I offered to help her financially during this hard period", Broidy said in a statement provided to the AP. "At the end of our relationship, this woman shared with me that she was pregnant".

Both agreements use the pseudonyms "David Dennison" and "Peggy Peterson" to hide the identity of the signatories.

According to The Journal, the deal was negotiated late past year and blocks the woman from disclosing details of her relationship with Broidy. The raid is connected to the investigations of Cohen's alleged bank fraud and campaign finance legal violations connected to the Stormy Daniels hush-money payment.

You can read the Wall Street Journal's story here. Daniels at the time of the payment was being represented by Keith Davidson, the same attorney who represented the woman in the Broidy negotiations, according to the Journal.

Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, helped negotiate the $1.6 million nondisclosure agreement between Broidy and the Playboy model previous year, according to two people familiar with the agreement. Cohen says he paid her out of his own funds.

The deal bears remarkable similarities to an agreement reached between Donald Trump and porn star Stormy Daniels that was signed by Cohen and Daniels, but not Trump. Broidy said he retained Cohen because Cohen had a prior relationship with Davidson. Cohen didn't respond to requests for comment from the outlet.

In tweets on Thursday night, Avenatti said, "In last 18 mos, Mr. Cohen negotiated yet another hush NDA, this time on behalf of a prominent GOP donor who had a relationship with a LA woman, impregnated her and then made sure she had an abortion".

Broidy, an investor, already was in the sights of the special prosecutor, Robert Mueller, because of his relationship with George Nader, a businessman who serves as an adviser to the de facto ruler of the United Arab Emirates, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahya.

He filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles federal court last month, accusing the Gulf nation of Qatar of stealing and leaking emails to reporters in retribution for Broidy's attempts to influence the Trump administration in favor of regional rivals of Qatar.
