Barbara Bush Will No Longer Seek Medical Treatment After Hospitalizations

Former first lady Barbara Bush 92 is seriously ill and she is no longer seeking medical treatment

Former U.S. First Lady Barbara Bush, the wife of former President George H.W. Bush, is in failing health and has decided not to seek additional medical treatment, her spokesman said on Sunday.

McGrath said Mrs. Bush spent two days at Methodist Hospital earlier this month but decided not to return there when her health began to deteriorate.

"Following a recent series of hospitalizations, and after consulting her family and doctors, Mrs". Jim McGrath, who issued a statement, said that she is surrounded by a familyand appreciates the messages and prayers she's been receiving from people. "Focusing on the family is the best place to start to make this country more literate, and I still feel that being more literate will help us solve so numerous other problems facing our society", she wrote in her 1994 memoir. She has also been treated for decades for a thyroid condition known as Graves' disease.

Barbara and George H.W. Bush have been married for 73 years.

Her other sons, former President George W. Bush and former Gov. Jeb Bush, have been in and out visiting her the past week.

Barbara Bush visits during round 2 of the 2016 Champions Tour Insperity Invitational, The Woodlands Country Club, The Woodlands, Texas. He is 93 years old and also has been in failing health in recent years.

"Barbara Bush is a woman of great strength, patriotism and an iconic first lady of our times who has touched and inspired countless lives".

"I have had great medical care and more operations than you would believe", she told the magazine.

"I will never forget how kind she was to me on every occasion we met, and how fondly the White House staff always spoke of her", she added.

Smith College awarded Barbara Bush with an honorary degree in 1989.
