Royals postponed in Toronto because of hole in roof

Torontonians will wake up to a wet and slippery Monday morning after the wicked weekend weather

The Blue Jays announced earlier on Monday that they were working with officials from the CN Tower and Toronto Police to assess the conditions around the stadium and the viability of playing the game.

The evening game between the Blue Jays and Kansas City Royals was postponed about 90 minutes before the scheduled first pitch at 7:07 p.m. ET.

The Blue Jays' home game Monday against the Royals has been postponed because of weather-related damage to Toronto's Rogers Centre roof, including a large hole created by falling ice from the nearby CN Tower. The entrance to the CN Tower and Rogers Centre closed.

Various photos on Twitter have shown the hole and tarps in the outfield as water was leaking through the opening.

Even moving indoors couldn't get the Blue Jays back on the field.

The stadium, which is located near the base of the 1,815-foot CN Tower, was damaged by falling ice.

Monday's delayed game marks the third straight Blue Jays game affected by weather.

The weekend ice storm resulted in power outages, canceled flights and road collisions across Ontario.

"We saw it happen", Miller said.

And I guess the only way to fix the hole is by physically going up on the roof.

The last time a baseball game had to be called off at Rogers Centre was April 12, 2001, coincidentally also against the Royals, after two of the panels that make up the retractable roof collided, spewing debris all over the turf.

Monday night's game was officially postponed and will be made up with a doubleheader on Tuesday.

Fans with tickets to Tuesday's game will be able to attend both games of the double-header, the team said.
