Across town at Hutchison High School, about 50 Hutchison High School and neighboring West Valley High School students met in a school parking lot.

"I think he said he was getting bullied and would like protection on the way here".

Kingsford High School senior Mitchell Wiltzius, second from right, addresses his fellow students during a walkout Friday morning outside the school.

Students and supporters discussed a wide range of topics including gun control, emotional support for students and the stance by congress on gun laws.

Minnesota student leaders aimed to take a broader focus than Friday's national walkouts, which centered on school violence.

Incidentally, reports pointed out that most of the students participating in Friday's walkouts were not even born when students shot a dozen people to death inside Columbine High School in Colorado, an atrocity that sparked a national debate over guns exactly 19 years ago. Staff from each school also went outside and watched over the students.

Former Arizona congresswoman Gabby Giffords, who was shot and seriously wounded by a gunman in 2011, sent a series of tweets supporting the students. "We wanted him to take notes and really take into consideration about what we think about our school and what we want to see change in Fresno as a whole", she said. I do not believe in taking away the privilege of a responsible person to fire a gun, nor do I believe that hunting rifles need to be banned.

In March, events were offered, coordinated through the schools. Though he believes school shootings are a problem, he said the gun control measures his peers are rallying for are "authoritative" and "too big of a measure". "The people who can give us that will stay in office, and the people who can't give us that will be out of office".

She said, "We will not stop until 58 people can walk into a concert, 49 people can walk into a club, 20 first graders can walk into their classroom, 17 students can walk into their school, 12 people can walk into a movie theater, one black man can walk into his grandmother's backyard and all of them can walk out". Students took the stage to issue an ultimatum to their lawmakers.

After the rally, numerous student participants sat down in front of a table set up at the base of the Capitol stairs to hear a group that included five state Democratic lawmakers answer previously submitted questions.

"I feel like things have gotten worse these last few years", said Emma Corcoran, a 15-year-old from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in Maryland, at a rally in Washington.

"We didn't expect to come into the building talking to Superintendent".

As a group gathered with signs that said "Never Again" and "Enough", Cheryl Henderson said she asked the demonstrators she was standing with if they had heard about the shooting that happened hours earlier at a high school in Ocala, Fla. "We keep banging on the door".
