Swedish FA: 'Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not be in Russian Federation with Sweden'

Zlatan Ibrahimovic who quit the Swedish national squad in 2016 will not make a comeback for the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia

Ibrahimovic last played in a World Cup with his national side in 2006, with Sweden failing to make the finals on the last two occasions.

It would be classic Zlatan, but not exactly fair, for the striker to arrive at the World Cup and slot into the No.9 role having watched his teammates reach the finals from his sofa.

Sweden´s record goalscorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not be coming out of worldwide retirement to represent the Nordic nation at the World Cup finals in Russian Federation, the country´s FA has said in a statement. "He said that he has not changed his mind about the national team - it is a no".

Ibrahimovic retired from worldwide soccer in 2016 after scoring a national record of 62 goals in 116 games.

The Swedes in the play-offs for the world Cup sensationally beat the Italian national team.

"I think Sweden is favourite to win the World Cup because they are better without Zlatan".

He said last month he wanted to concentrate on settling into his career in Major League Soccer before thinking about the World Cup.

This statement immediately responded coach Janne Andersson of Sweden, who said that the services of a veteran does not need.

The former Manchester United striker has been an immediate hit with the Galaxy by scoring three goals in his first four MLS games.
