Why Mark Zuckerberg may want to avoid the UK

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg may be summoned to speak to United Kingdom politicians whenever he visits the country next.

They include how many British Facebook users were contacted by "non-UK entities" via Facebook during the Brexit referendum and whether Facebook passed user data to Cambridge Analytica. However, it'll continue to provide aggregated analytics to the developers.

"This is going to be for building real, long-term relationships, not just hook-ups", Zuckerberg said as he unveiled the plans at Facebook's annual developers conference.

The social network already has online dating's critical ingredient, a robust graph of people's connection, and services like Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge have been built on top of it.

"The hardest decision I made wasn't to invest in safety and security", Zuckerberg said. Since its initial announcement a year ago, Regina Dugan, Former DARPA director, has left her post where she headed Building 8.

Concerns about privacy on Facebook have grown since the social network's admission in March that the data of millions of users was wrongly harvested by political consultancy Cambridge Analytica.

The latest example of the damage control campaign showed up a commitment to develop a Facebook-flavored right to be forgotten.

For Zuckerberg, that's meant repeated apologies to users and lawmakers, two days of congressional questioning about whether and how the company protects its users' privacy. It is expected that Facebook will help serve our curiosity on this developer conference as to what other outlandish projects they are investing their resources into this year.

But after several weeks on the defensive over the scandal, Zuckerberg was clearly back in techno-enthusiasm mode.

Zuckerberg also said the dating feature will not suggests users' friends to date.

"Let's not do that again soon", he said.

Zuckerberg also thanked Jan Koum, the departing co-founder of the Facebook-owned messaging service WhatsApp, who announced his resignation on Monday after the Washington Post published a story that he was leaving the company after clashing with management over privacy, encryption and strategy.

As for privacy, Zuckerberg stressed it was designed with privacy in mind.
