Iran Accuses Trump of 'Bullying' as Nuclear Deal Deadline Nears

Benjamin Netanyahu

This all comes less than two weeks before President Donald Trump decides whether the U.S. plans to stay in Iran nuclear deal or not.

Mohammad Javad Zarif's video, which was also posted to Trump's favorite social media platform, Twitter, appeared to be taking his message to the masses after earlier speaking to news outlets across the United States to defend the deal.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has slammed Washington for "bullying" other nations against Tehran, and condemned European Union states that are dancing to the USA tune over the nuclear deal at the expense of Iran.

The White House official said Mr. Trump was "most of the way there toward pulling out of the deal but he hasn't made the decision" and that he "seems poised to do it but until a decision is made by this President it is not final".

Meanwhile, a foreign policy advisor to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned Thursday Iran would withdraw from the deal if Trump follows through on his threat to pull out of the accord.

The statement was later changed online from the present to the past tense, saying "Iran had a robust, clandestine nuclear weapons program".

"The nuclear deal is based on lies".

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned of "dangerous times" as US President Donald Trump considers whether to remain in or leave the global deal that seeks to rein in Iran's nuclear weapons programme.

"I understand the concerns of some countries in relation to the Iranian influence in other countries of the region".

Trump demands inspection of Iran's military sites, and ending Tehran's ballistic missile program. "Iran accepts the nuclear agreement as it has been prepared and will not accept adding or removing anything", he said.

Technically, Trump must decide by May 12 whether to renew "waivers" suspending some of the US sanctions on Iran.

One of the main sticking points has to do with the "sunsets", where the United States in effect wishes to find a way to extend some of the limits on Iran's nuclear program beyond their expiration dates under the agreement.

He said thousands of pages of material, have been obtained by Israel which showed Iran had deceived the world by denying it had ever sought nuclear weapons.

The Iran nuclear deal was signed between six countries in 2015 - Iran, US, Britain, Germany, Russia, France and China for lifting economic sanctions on Tehran in exchange for limitations to the country's nuclear programme. Analysts and family members of dual nationals and others detained in Iran say hard-liners in the Islamic Republic's security agencies use the prisoners as bargaining chips in negotiations with the West. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has called into question the legitimacy of the United States and Israel making moves to have the deal scrapped after it gained the consensus of five world powers in 2015 in what was widely regarded at the time as a significant diplomatic victory in the worldwide community.
