Wayne Rooney has not asked to leave Everton, says Sam Allardyce

Wayne Rooney would benefit from experiencing different cultures and environments in the United States says Gary Neville

Everton owner Farhad Moshiri is still to sign off the terms of Rooney's departure however, with the 32-year-old having a final year left on his contract worth around £150,000 a week.

No announcement on Rooney's future will be made until July 10, when the MLS transfer window opens, but it would be no surprise if he chose to follow a trail favoured by ageing pros.

"My understanding of the situation is there seems to have been some negotiation somewhere along the line", said Allardyce.

"I don't get involved in anything with regards transfers so all I know is there appears to be interest from D.C. United".

'Only after I've spoken him today will I find out where the situation actually lies.

"I am always comfortable if any player wants to leave or if any player doesn't want to leave".

Sam Allardyce expects to hold talks with Farhad Moshiri next week, when he will discover whether he is to continue as Everton manager.

"I can tell you great stories about Wayne and the things that he has done".

Rooney, Everton's leading goalscorer this season, has become increasingly frustrated with a reduced role under Allardyce.

In this picture, Wayne Rooney of Everton reacts during the Premier League match between Everton and Newcastle United at Goodison Park on April 23, 2018, in Liverpool, England.

Allardyce said: "How as a manager can you guarantee anyone to play?"

"That next level of recruitment is to get quality players who can get into the team and make it better than they are at this moment in time".

One year on, it may be even more hard to succeed.

"There were days when Wayne Rooney was young, he would play for the first team then he would go back and be out kicking the ball with his pals in the street".

United is prepared to pay him between US$5 million and US$8 million per season (NZ$7 million to NZ$11.5 million), said a well-connected figure who requested anonymity in order to speak about the negotiations. That's it. Next season is already planned.
