Wenger: Arteta has "all of the qualities" to manager Arsenal

Mikel Arteta

An answer to that question could move a step closer today as the Gunners plan discussions with a potential successor.

Failing to sign Cristiano Ronaldo is outgoing Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger's biggest transfer regret in his nearly 22-year-reign at the Premier League club, the 68-year-old has said. Arteta knows the importance of Cazorla in the team's dressing room, which could be vital in keeping the squad together. So effusive was the torrent of accolades, one could nearly forget that Wenger and Arsenal haven't won the Premier League title since 2003-2004's legendary Invincibles season.

According to the same story, no candidate ticks the boxes for the candidate that Arsenal are looking for more than Arteta.

NAIJ.com previously that Arsenal chief executive, Ivan Gazidis, reportedly want former Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta as a possible replacement for Arsene Wenger this summer.

Pep Guardiola takes many the plaudits for Manchester City's success and rightly so, but there is reason to think Arteta has had an important influence too.

"He has all the qualities to do the job, yes, and I think as well he is one of the favourites", the Frenchman said.

Mikel Arteta is expected to be unveiled as the new Arsenal manager this month after the club made it clear that Patrick Vieira is not seriously in their thoughts.

Numerous coaches have been linked with the role, including Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri, who is the current favourite despite having played down the rumours, but the Gunners icon believes the 36-year-old is the standout candidate.

Guardiola is said to be impressed with Arteta's individual work with City's players.

Wenger's assistant Steve Bould has also been offered a new role but the former defender hasn't yet given an indication of his future and is understood be weighing up an offer from recently relegated Stoke City. Arsenal have a system in place now which they did before Christmas, even in Wenger's time where there are three new individuals there.

"There is always something you could have done differently, but the problem of negotiations is to know when you give in and when you don't give in", said Wenger.
