Will Smith to Perform Official Anthem for 2018 FIFA World Cup

Diplo & Will Smith Team Up For Official World Cup 2018 Anthem Matthew Meadow

Every year, an anthem is chosen to represent the game and to be presented to all viewers - this year, that anthem will be performed by Will Smith, along with Nicky Jam and Kosovo singer Era Istrefi, and produced by Diplo.

The song will hit streaming platforms on Friday (May 25) while the FIFA World Cup begins in Russian Federation on June 14. Reggaeton producer DJ Nelson first hinted at the news with Vibe, before further confirmation came in.

Smith and Jam have been seen in Cartegena, Colombia, with producer DJ Nelson telling music web site Vibe they might be performing the tune for this summer season's event in Russian Federation.

The United States failed to qualified for the 2018 World Cup next month in Russian Federation, but its presence will still be felt - at least slightly. In 2014, it was Pitbull and Jennifer Lopez performing "We Are One (Ole Ola)" at the opening ceremony in Brazil; Shakira contributed "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" at the end of the 2010 tournament in South Africa.

The two had been talking about each other on social media before news of the World Cup song leaked, with Nicky Jam doing some karoake in honor of Smith and Smith posting a video of himself singing Nicky Jam and J Balvin's hit song, "X". "They're making this big song and it's just so insane."Allegedly, Smith and Nicky were in Budapest recently finishing the song".

We've seen our fair share of head-turning crossover collaborations over the past year, but you can bet the official FIFA World Cup song was bound to induce a couple of double takes.
