Abe backs Trump's cancellation of U.S.-N. Korea summit

The Australian Chinese man posing as the North Korean leader calls himself only Howard X and said he was appearing to wish success for a summit between Kim and US President Donald Trump

Preparatory talks with North Korean officials would be the clearest sign yet that Trump's on-again, off-again summit in Singapore will go take place as planned.

"You talk about your nuclear capabilities, but ours are so massive and powerful that I pray to God they will never have to be used", Trump wrote to Kim.

A summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump is anticipated on July 12. He wrote: "We are having very productive talks with North Korea about reinstating the summit which, if it does happen, will likely remain in Singapore on the same date, June 12th, and, if necessary, will be extended beyond that date". That hasn't changed, and it's moving along pretty well.

Trump added: "We'll see what happens".

After this, Bolton predicted, the Kim regime would collapse and the USA would waltz in to secure North Korea's nuclear sites.

Kim thanked Moon "for much effort made by him" towards the US-North Korea summit, and said he hoped to improve relations with Washington and "establish mechanism for permanent and durable peace". The meetings are expected to go through Monday and Tuesday, the newspaper reported.

The renewed interest came roughly 24 hours after Kim Jong Un met with Moon Jae-in in the so-called "truce village" of Panmunjom on the North Korean side of the border.

During his two-hour meeting with Mr Kim, Mr Moon said he urged both Washington and Pyongyang "to remove misunderstandings through direct communication and to have sufficient dialogue in advance through working-level negotiations on the agendas to be agreed upon at the summit".

"What Kim is unclear about is that he has concerns about whether his country can surely trust the United States over its promise to end hostile relations (with North Korea) and provide a security guarantee if they do denuclearisation", Moon said.

Moon was also seen in photos and video shaking hands with Kim's sister Kim Yo Jong, who has played a major public role in recent talks with the South, including leading a delegation across the border during February's Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

"Following up from the Panmunjeom Declaration, Chairman Kim again stated his will for complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula", Moon said at a press conference on his meeting with Kim. Since taking power a year ago, Moon has sought to facilitate dialogue between Trump and Kim to avoid the possibility of a devastating military conflict on the Korean Peninsula.

The leaders met Saturday along the demilitarized zone that separates the nations. The two leaders also agreed to "meet frequently", the KCNA news agency said.

Moon said Kim described the Singapore summit as a landmark opportunity to end decades of confrontation.

North Korea rejected outright calls from U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton to follow the Libya model of quickly giving up its nuclear weapons before it gets anything in return. When asked about the talks between Moon and Kim, the president replied, "the talks have gone very well".

That revelation signals that Kim keenly wants the United States summit, and that Moon is happy to play the role of an intermediary between Pyongyang and Washington.

The South Korean leader declined to comment on how denuclearization will be achieved, saying that a roadmap has to be worked out by the USA and North Korea.

Surprised Singaporeans pursued North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Sunday before realising the portly man with slick black hair near the Marina Bay Sands hotel was an impersonator. Global journalists were present, but the US government can't verify the site's destruction. That, however, is just what Kim and the North Korean regime fear, as Bolton and Pompeo well know.

"He's kind of gotten where he needs to be", Hayden said.
