Report a 'total disaster' for Comey and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, says Trump

Comey 'broke norms but not biased' - agency watchdog report

It concluded there was no evidence of bias in the FBI investigation of Clinton's use of a private email server but was sharply critical of former FBI Director James Comey, saying he violated policy and practice in his handling of the email probe.

"FBI Agent Peter Strzok, who headed the Clinton & Russia investigations, texted to his lover Lisa Page, in the IG Report, that "we'll stop" candidate Trump from becoming President". That investigation, now led by Mueller, is also looking into whether Trump obstructed justice. That was the greatest political mistake, Trump said. They tried to pretend the exoneration didn't happen, he said.

"Tomorrow, Mueller should be suspended and honest people should be brought in, impartial people to investigate these people like Strzok", Giuliani told host Sean Hannity. They used words like "idiot", "loathsome", "menace" and "disaster" to describe him. Trump, already concerned about the legitimacy of his election, will have to wrestle with the fact that but for Comey's grandstanding, he would not be president. And what's more, apparently he did so while the FBI was investigating Clinton for nearly the very same thing.

In one reply to Page, Strzok said: "No. No he's not. We'll stop it".

A new report from the Department of Justice's Office of Inspector General states that former FBI Director James Comey "clearly and dramatically from FBI and department norms" in his treatment of the investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails.

Trump weighed in on the exchange on Twitter Friday morning, tweeting: "Doesn't get any lower than that!" But the report ultimately notes that agency employees are entitled to their own political views and found no evidence that the investigation was compromised by political bias.

Scott Ferson, a Boston-based Democratic strategist, said there's not much new in this report, as anti-Trump texts had already been unearthed between the two Federal Bureau of Investigation employees. But both insisted bias played no part in their motivations.

Sessions praised FBI Director Christopher Wray for his handling of the fallout from the report, saying he was "real proud" of Wray for his remarks Thursday. The inspector general also found at least five FBI officials assigned to the Clinton investigation improperly made anti-Trump or pro-Clinton statements over text messages or by other means.

And while the president has criticised Mr Comey's deputy, Andrew McCabe, because of Democratic political contributions to his wife, the Justice Department report said he was not required to recuse himself and had correctly flagged the issue inside the bureau.

The president has said the report "exonerates" him in the Russian Federation probe, which he falsely claimed Friday had been "discredited" by the inspector general.
