Temperatures near 100 degrees across Northeast as heat wave blazes on

Another day another heat advisory for parts of central Alabama. Wednesday's advisory will be in effect from noon until 7 p.m

The reported temperature at Logan Airport as of 1 p.m. Sunday was 91 degrees and the heat index was 98, the weather service said.

While the forecast will hoover in the high 90s, the high humidity will make it feel like 107 or 106 degrees in some areas, the National Weather Service said.

MONDAY - Mostly Sunny, Extremely Hot and humid, Heat Index 100+, Pop Up Late Day Shower. Increasing humidity throughout the weekend and beyond will create a heat index in the low to mid 100s, the weather service forecast office in Mount Holly said Friday morning.

The nearest cooling center may be found by calling 311, or visiting the city's "Beat the Heat" website.

Residents are warned to "drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, and stay out of the sun", the agency says.

If someone is experiencing heat cramps in the legs or abdomen, bring them to a cooler place where they can rest and lightly stretch.

A risky heat wave will have more than half of the country sweltering over the Fourth of July holiday.

Temperatures are expected to stay sultry next week, with temperatures in the high 80s. With winds that won't be that strong, it may cool down a bit near Lake Michigan as the day progresses. The heat advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Monday with a possible heat-index value of 103. The National Weather Service and AccuWeather both are predicting a chance of showers and thunderstorms sometime after 2 p.m. Wednesday. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when auto interiors can reach lethal temperatures in minutes.

The heat and humidity may cause heat stress during outdoor exertion or extended exposure.

HEAT CRAMPS: Painful spasms usually in the muscles of legs and abdomen with heavy sweating. Not only that, but it will be important to put on sunscreen if you plan on spending time outdoors and be sure to reapply it often. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. But, American Red Cross officials warn, that heat carries risks, especially for senior citizens, children, athletes, people with chronic medical conditions and those who work outside.
