WATCH the moment notorious French gangster makes helicopter jailbreak

Sud-Francilien prison outside Paris when Redoine Faid had escaped in 2013

The French gangster was airlifted by out of Sud-Francilien Prison near Paris by armed accomplices who landed a hijacked helicopter in the prison yard.

A union representative for the prison told news channel BFM that "two men dressed in black, wearing balaclavas and police armbands" broke into the visiting room, using a grinder. In 2013, he had taken four prison guards hostage before using dynamite to blow his way out of prison and fleeing in a waiting getaway auto. The unarmed wardens ran for their safety and raised the alarm. French media reported that the three men took the pilot hostage and later freed him.

This is not the first time for Faid; he has another famous jailbreak to his credit. Since the incident; the helicopter pilot was released from the hospital with no injuries, the helicopter itself was found in a town north of Paris, and Faid's brother has been taken into custody.

After the helicopter that flew Faid out of jail was set on fire, its occupants fled by vehicle in a black Renault Megane which they later dumped in the underground auto park of a shopping centre near the airport.

At the same time, a helicopter landed in the prison courtyard, the only part of the complex not covered by anti-helicopter netting. Faid and his accomplices are believed to have ditched the airplane and escaped by auto.

They were then picked up in a black Renault auto before changing to a white van for continuing their escape.

Justice Minister Nicole Belloubet told Europe 1 radio that she had sent a team of inspectors to the prison "to see whether the security measures were defective so that we can rectify them".

He was captured May 29, 2013, when authorities found him hiding out at a hotel in Pontault-Combault, east of Paris.

His infamy has increased since then following appearances in several television shows and the co-authoring of books recounting his past and rise as a criminal in the tough suburbs of Paris.

Before that incident, Faid had been released from prison after convincing the parole board that he renounced his criminal past.

Police nicknamed him "The Author" for the two books he co-wrote about his youth. Apparently, Faid, also enjoys a cult following in the immigrant suburbs outside Paris.

He wrote that he had watched the film dozens of times to flawless his bank-robbing prowess.
