Cops Clash With Protesters After Police Shooting

Police push back protesters near the scene where an officer fatally shot a man Saturday evening in South Shore. Police accounts differ slightly by the media report, but officers say they encountered the man on foot, confronted him, and when he became combative and reached for a weapon in his trousers they opened fire, per CNN. In the past, almost all police officers are acquitted after shooting people of color. The man reportedly became combative and began "flailing and swinging" at police when they approached him.

Jackson called for video to be released and referenced footage from 2014 that showed a white officer shooting a black 17-year-old, Laquan McDonald, 16 times.

Augustus was a barber who went by the nickname "Snoop", said Gloria Rainge, according to the Sun-Times.

There are new details Sunday morning in the fatal police shooting of Archer Amorosi.

At least four people were arrested and several officers were injured, police said.

Augustus' death is the latest officer-involved shooting that sparked protests in Chicago. They said that they saw a man who "they thought might be armed". The man, who lived a short distance away, broke free and ran from the officers, who believed "he appeared to be reaching for a weapon" and shot him, he said.

After nightfall, protesters continued to mill around the neighborhood with police occasionally chasing them away. The officers involved will be placed on administrative leave for 30 days. "I haven't seen a police shooting scene this intense since the [Laquan] McDonald video release". Three years later, three officers were indicted on felony charges for allegedly conspiring to cover up the shooting.

Officers armed with batons squared off with the protestors with punches thrown on both sides, multiple media accounts said and videos posted on Twitter show.

During the protest that followed the shooting, officers pulled people to the ground and struck them with batons. "This is a tragic situation, where an individual lost his life".

"The whole damn system is guilty as hell", dozens chanted on Saturday just hours after police shot and killed the man in the South Shore neighbourhood of Chicago.

In a statement, the city's Civilian Office of Police Accountability said it's committed to a thorough, objective and unbiased investigation of the shooting.
