For Russia, Trump is creating more problems than he solves

Ukraine

More outrage has come with the news that Trump and Putin might be working out a deal whereby special counsel Robert Mueller would get access to interviews with Russians indicted after allegedly hacking Democrats, and Russia would get to question USA officials it suspects of interfering in Russian affairs in exchange. I will say this: "I don't see any reason why it would be".

Trump stunned the world by siding with Putin in Helsinki over the findings of US intelligence agencies that Moscow had conducted a hacking and influence operation created to sway the 2016 White House race in Trump's favour. "TIME's new cover: Trump wanted a summit with Putin".

"Some people HATE the fact that I got along well with President Putin of Russian Federation".

Trump tweeted Thursday that his critics in the media "are pushing so recklessly hard and hate the fact that I'll probably have a good relationship with Putin".

Putin's comments come as Trump still faces condemnation on both sides of the political aisle after his fawning press conference in Helsinki with the Russian leader.

Time magazine on Thursday unveiled its latest cover featuring a composite photo of President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin morphed into one person.

He also lashed out at Europe and US-dominated North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, saying Russian Federation would hit back with an "equivalent response" to North Atlantic Treaty Organisation bases near Russia's borders and other "aggressive steps".

That stands in sharp contrast to the rain of criticism the US president has faced at home.

Putin acknowledges that U.S. President Trump does not recognize the annexation of Ukraine's Crimea.

Few details about what was discussed or agreed upon by Trump and Putin at a one-on-one session at the summit, with only translators present, have emerged. "But no one expected that", Mr Putin said. "The sentence should have been, 'I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be Russian Federation'". The meeting, he noted, had allowed the United States and Russian Federation to start down the "path of positive change" and away from a confrontation he said was in some ways "worse than the Cold War".

"The Summit with Russian Federation was a great success, except with the real enemy of the people, the Fake News Media", Trump wrote. "Obviously, I wish he'd made a different statement".

The Russian leader praised Trump's mediation efforts in North Korea, but slammed his protectionist trade policies and the decision to pull out of the global accord curbing Iran's nuclear activities. "We are doing MUCH better than any other country!" Besides that initiative to make progress on arms controls, it was unclear what agreements Putin was referring two in Thursday's speech.

He laughed and said: "That's going to be special".
