Harley Davidson’s NEW 250cc-500cc motorcycle to take on Royal Enfields

Harley-Davidson Streetfighter 975

We already knew Harley-Davidson was planning to sell an electric motorcycle, presumably some iteration of the Livewire design, by 2020.

Moreover, the company said it will develop a new modular 500cc to 1,250cc middle-weight platform of motorcycles on which multiple models in three distinct product categories and four displacements, can be developed.

Harley-Davidson, known for its car-alarm triggering engine rumble, said LiveWire will have no clutch and no gears.

Developing a more accessible, small-displacement (250cc to 500cc) motorcycle for Asia emerging markets through a planned strategic alliance with a manufacturer in Asia.

"The bold actions we are announcing today leverage Harley-Davidson's vast capabilities and competitive firepower-our excellence in product development and manufacturing, the global appeal of the brand and of course, our great dealer network", said Matt Levatich, president and chief executive officer, Harley-Davidson.

Harley-Davidson also shared some vague details about expanding the way it reaches customers.

Titled "More Roads to Harley-Davidson", US motorcycle maker Harley-Davidson (H-D), revealed its marketing and product plan through to 2022.

In all, Harley-Davidson said it plans to release 100 new motorcycles over the next 10 years. The new LiveWire will be the first in a broad, no-clutch "twist and go" portfolio of electric two-wheelers created to establish the company as the leader in the electrification of the sport. And now the company has announced the next revolution of two-wheeled freedom.

It also plans to add "lighter, smaller and more accessible products" through 2022 in its electric motorcycles portfolio. But they're typically bought by older riders. Harley-Davidson didn't say anything specific, but it's possible these five models may be a full replacement of the Sportster line.

The new 250-500 cc motorcycle from Harley Davidson will compete with the Royal Enfield Classic 350/500, the upcoming Triumph 500 cc (speculated) motorcycle, the new Jawa bike, and the Kawasaki Estrella 250 in the Asian markets.

The iconic company has been reeling from attacks by President Donald Trump and a structurally declining USA market.

Speaking with CNBC, Levatich said that riding the LiveWire "is a different feeling". We'll be sure to bring you more coverage of this. "India's 250-500cc motorcycle segment is expected to grow at 25 per cent every year through 2021".
