UEFA Champions League Group released

Real Madrid Croatia's midfielder Luka Modric receives the Uefa player of the season award during the draw for Uefa Champions League tournament at The Grimaldi Forum in Monaco

Juventus will meet Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League 2018/19 group stage as Cristiano Ronaldo prepares himself to face his former side in the Group H clash of UCL.

Their bad month of August didn't get any better when they ended up in a group with Barcelona, Tottenham, and PSV Eindhoven.

Thursday's draw ceremony at Monaco's Grimaldi Forum, a stone's throw from the Mediterranean Sea, threw up several other fascinating groups, with last season's beaten finalists Liverpool set to have their work cut out alongside the Paris Saint-Germain of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, as well as Napoli, in Group C. They drew Real Madrid, CSKA Moscow, and Viktoria Plzen in a group that they should be able to advance out of.

The first round of group games will be played on September 18 and 19, with the last matches on December 11 and 12.

Juventus has made it clear that they are pursuing a Champions League trophy above all else this year and will be expecting to win their group.

This season, the other three English sides have notionally challenging groups, with Spurs again drawn in the closest thing to a group of death, but that is one of two that aren't quite as complicated as they initially appear.

Group E also has three former European champions - Bayern Munich, Benfica and Ajax Amsterdam - alongside AEK Athens.

Tottenham have shown they can overcome the best, just look at last season when they topped their group ahead of Real Madrid so they are clearly not to be overlooked.

Allegri added that the choice of Modric was "a personal choice" of those who voted "and, as such, must be respected". "We can not hide the fact that we are among the favorites this year", Juventus CEO Giuseppe Marotta said.

Liverpool met Red Star Belgrade in the last 16 of the European Cup in 1973-74, with the Reds losing both the home and away legs.

Changes brought in for this season mean half of the places in the group stage were allocated to the top four sides in the four best-ranked leagues: Spain, England, Germany and Italy.

"Manchester City are a massive challenge for us", said Hoffenheim coach Julien Nagelsmann.

With Lokomotiv Moscow coming out of Pot 1, Porto out of Pot 2 and Schalke out of Pot 3 you can safely deduce that all the teams remaining in Pot 4 would be desperate for Diego Forlan to call out their name.

Group A: Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Monaco, Club Brugge.
