Flake slams Trump’s Justice Department attack

President Trump interrupted his Labor Day holiday to launch a raging mid-afternoon tweetstorm at Attorney General Jeff Sessions - apparently blaming him for last month's indictments of a pair of "very popular" GOP lawmakers.

Mr Trump wrote on Twitter that the justice department's decision to file charges put "easy wins now in doubt".

Chris Collins of NY was indicted on insider trading charges, which he has denied, while Duncan Hunter of California was accused with his wife of using campaign donations for personal purposes.

The tweet marked Trump's latest attack on the Justice Department, which has a long history of carrying out investigations and pursuing indictments in a nonpartisan fashion.

Trump believes the charges could jeopardize Republican chances in the upcoming November mid-term elections.

"No president of the United States, Republican or Democrat, has ever, ever crossed the line and told people, 'Don't prosecute Republicans".

"Instead of commenting on ongoing investigations and prosecutions, the job of the president of the United States is to defend the Constitution and protect the impartial administration of justice", Sasse added.

Collins, a Republican who represents the area between Buffalo and Rochester, was the first member of Congress to endorse Trump's candidacy.

The US attorney general, Jeff Sessions, has expressed a "growing concern" that social media companies may be "intentionally stifling the free exchange of ideas" on their platforms, the Department of Justice confirmed on Wednesday.

The tweet was just another attempt by the president into shaming his attorney general into resigning. His comment defied the Justice Department's requirement of impartiality, eliciting a criticism from both parties.

US intelligence agencies have concluded Russian Federation tried to help Trump win the 2016 election, but the Kremlin denies meddling.

He went on to say that "the Democrats, none of whom voted for Jeff Sessions, must love him now", before going on to make the ultimate insult in Trump speak - a comparison to former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey.

According to the same book, Trump called Sessions "mentally retarded" behind his back, mocking his Alabama accent.

Former Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara called Trump's tweet "next level insane, inappropriate, unethical, stupid, incriminating". Trump did not have any public events Monday.

Later in the segment, Napolitano said that such tweets could be used by Mueller to potentially prove corrupt intent in an obstruction of justice charge.

The move represents a significant escalation of the political scrutiny facing tech firms, and comes a week after President Trump blasted Google for allegedly shutting out conservative voices.

Fox News's Brit Hume wondered when Trump would ever learn the role of his attorney general.
