Liverpool appear real deal as familiar failings torment Tottenham

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp celebrates with Jordan Henderson and Joe Gomez after the match against Tottenham Hotspur at the Wembley Stadium in London

A win for Spurs could take them top temporarily at least, a win for the reds will keep us on top.

Firmino was transported to Moorfields Eye Hospital to be assessed and manager Jurgen Klopp admitted after the game that he didn't know the severity of his forward's injury.

In what is already shaping up to be a critical section of Liverpool's season, the Reds beat Tottenham Hotspur in London 1-2 to restart the Premier League after the worldwide break.

'Especially from Mane, who showed up today in the Tottenham match not passing to Salah in more than one chance.

"It's not greedy, it's a completely normal adaption to the situation", the Liverpool boss said.

"I want them to score and encourage them to do so, but there are moments when they have to pass".

"They are so good and so tuned and they do it so confidently to pass through the lines that you need to be outstandingly courageous and ready to close these gaps". All the others were absolutely OK.

"He is used to scoring now and he wants to find the net".

"Of course we can do better but sometimes you have to have your confidence knocked". Life is so easy when you are watching!

Once the game was over and we could all re-gather our thoughts, we had a chat with Jason McGovern from "Last Word On Spurs" (@LastWordOnSpurs) podcast to get his honest assessment of proceedings. As the French champions, Napoli and Red Star Belgrade in Group C are set to give them a tough time.

"I don't have the personality to wait for problems, but I'm old enough to know they will come", Klopp said.

A win for Liverpool would make it only the third time in the club's history they've won their opening five games in England's top division.

"Yet on a day when Tottenham's centre-backs of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld couldn't cope with the movement of Liverpool's forwards, they were let off the hook by wasteful finishing and poor decision making by Salah, Mane and Firmino".

All of the "big six" are in action on a Premier League Saturday, a rare thing indeed in modern football.

But Liverpool could have been much further ahead had Salah and Mane combined better in attack.

"With respect, we are not playing for a team that is fighting relegation thinking it is impossible".
