Bloodied Anthony Joshua knocks out Alexander Povetkin in seventh round

Joshua weighs in 11 kilograms heavier than Povetkin

Also after engaging in an icy final stare-down, Alexander Povetkin is feeling "no pressure" ahead of today's heavyweight clash with Anthony Joshua.

Russia's 39-year-old Povetkin, whose reputation will never fully recover from the damage caused by two failed drug tests, secured Saturday's fight by becoming Joshua's mandatory challenger five years after last fighting for a world title, and is unlikely to do so again if he suffers his second defeat.

A mega fight between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder was just announced for December 1st on Showtime, and the victor of the Joshua and Povetkin fight will likely, and hopefully, face the victor of tonight's bout in the near future.

"Coming back is a blessing - it's time to put on a performance", said Joshua at a Wembley news conference on Thursday.

Joshua (21-0, 20 KO's) went the distance for the first time in his professional career in March when he outpointed Joseph Parker. successfully defended his titles against Joseph Parker back in March. Obviously I've not been out there knocking people out (in the early rounds) like I used to, but it's different, top-tier fighters at the top end. You can't beat me.

"It's a very comfortable and good weight for me, I feel great", Povetkin said. Either way, Joshua is scheduled to have another fight at Wembley Stadium on April 13, 2019, but the opponent has not been decided.

Fury, 30, is the former IBF, WBA, IBO and WBO heavyweight world champion. Both boxers shipped punishment, with Povetkin sporting a significant cut to the left eye.

Povetkin remained risky with his left hook and overhand right, but Joshua increasingly gained control through his jab and in the sixth landed a short right hand from close range that the Russian did well to shrug off. Povetkin was able to land some good right crosses to the head and body, but Joshua started to pump his jab with more regularity.

Then come the seventh round he unleashed a flurry of punches to send Povetkin down.

And as he was handed a microphone for a post-fight interview, Joshua revealed his number one target for his next fight - April 13 at Wembley - is Wilder, the man who has so far evaded his clutches.
