Brett Kavanaugh: Second woman accuses US Supreme Court nominee of sexual misconduct

Ford has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her 36 years ago. And just seven weeks from an election in which Democrats are hoping to capture control of the House and maybe the Senate, her emergence has also drawn intensified attention to the #MeToo movement's focus on sexual abuse.

White House spokesperson Kerri Kupec said of those who allegedly attended the party, "One week ago, Dr. Christine Ford claimed she was assaulted at a house party attended by four others".

The woman, Christine Blasey Ford, has agreed to testify before the Senate Judiciary committee Thursday morning.

His confirmation by the Republican-controlled Senate seemed assured until Ford alleged in a Washington Post interview that a drunken 17-year-old Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed and tried to tear her clothes off.

Kavanaugh, who now sits on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, is a former Bush administration official who has been nominated to the seat vacated by Anthony Kennedy who was considered the swing justice on the court, particularly in cases involving issues like abortion and gay rights.

In response Ford's lawyer Debra Katz said: "As Dr. Ford has said, she did not share her story publicly or with anyone for years following the incident with Judge Kavanaugh". The people who knew me then know that this did not happen, and have said so.

"These are smears, pure and simple. I'm not saying it's a done deal", said another person familiar with Saturday's exchanges.

In a statement, the White House claimed that neither Kavanaugh nor anyone within the administration shared the accuser's name with Whelan.

A White House spokeswoman says the administration stands by the nominee, labelling the allegation "the latest in coordinated smear campaign by the Democrats created to tear a good man down".

The Judiciary Committee's top Democrat, Senator Dianne Feinstein, called on the panel's Republican chairman, Senator Chuck Grassley, to postpone Thursday's hearing in order to investigate Ramirez's accusations. "It looks like it will be Thursday, but [Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck] Grassley has to run it by his people".

He also indicated that there will no long delays on voting for confirmation. They know they must tread carefully at any hearing - especially because all 11 Republicans on the Judiciary Committee are men, which is one reason they were seeking an outside lawyer, preferably a woman, to do the questioning.

U.S. President Donald Trump hosts the "Global Call to Action on the World Drug Problem" event at the United Nations in NY, U.S., September 24, 2018.

"I remember a penis being in front of my face", she said. When she pushed him away, she accidentally touched it without her consent.

In a statement to The New Yorker, two of the male classmates who Ramirez alleged were involved the incident, the wife of a third male student she said was involved, and three other classmates, disputed Ramirez's account of events. "I can still see his face, and his hips coming forward, like when you pull up your trousers".

In requesting another day to decide, Ford lawyer Debra Katz late Friday called Grassley's original deadline "arbitrary" and said its "sole objective is to bully Dr. Ford and deprive her of the ability to make a considered decision that has life-altering implications for her and her family".

The leak of its existence spurred a media firestorm around Kavanaugh's nomination.

Her claims have rattled Washington and stalled Kavanaugh's conformation process.
