Kavanaugh Saga Shows 'Very Scary' Dynamic for Men, Trump says

Senators vow ‘full scale’ investigation to determine who leaked Kavanaugh accuser’s letter

Under pressure from opposition Democrats and a handful of his own Republicans, Trump on Friday ordered a fresh FBI investigation into allegations of Kavanaugh's sexual misconduct during his youth. A federal statute, 18 U.S.C. 1001, criminalizes such acts "under penalty of felony" saying such persons will be "fined and imprisoned not more than 5 years".

Trump has shown much more empathy for Kavanaugh than Ford, saying the culture of the moment in America is a "scary situation where you're guilty until proven innocent".

He apparently believes it's okay to short-circuit the legal process - in this case the FBI investigation he authorized - and just jump to the conclusion Ford must be a liar.

"I had one beer, right?"

He had previously called her a "very credible witness".

"Can you imagine if I had?" he said to laughs.

"Mom, a bad thing just happened", Trump said.

Mr Trump said it was a "scary time for young men" who could become the subject of false allegations.

Trump's rendition was met with cheers in Southaven, Mississippi.

The White House - through press secretary Sarah Sanders and others - has dismissed all the allegations against him as old news that had been litigated during the campaign. It really does. You could be somebody that was flawless your entire life, and somebody could accuse you of something. "'I don't remember, '" Trump said, mocking Ford's voice. A man's life is shattered.

"She testified for hours, and she remembered a whole lot more than the fact that she had one beer".

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who is eager to put Kavanaugh on the court, regardless of the allegations against him, said Tuesday that he's aiming to hold Kavanaugh's confirmation vote this week.

"That is a very, very hard standard", Trump said.

The second Trump's speech hit the internet, angry followers, including politicians and regular users, posted tweets of disgust.

The Remington poll surveyed 1,555 likely voters on Wednesday and Thursday, both the day before and the day of the public Senate Judiciary Committee hearing featuring Ford and Kavanaugh's testimonies.

Judge's interview started but "has not been completed", his attorney said in a statement quoted by Fox News.

But he said they are not following up at all on Ramirez's account that Kavanaugh thrust his genitals in her face, forcing her to touch them without her consent, during an alcohol-fuelled party when they were students at Yale University in the mid-1980s. "Will you send a message to the tens of millions of American women and men who are victims of sexual violence that their experiences will be met with indifference and even disbelief?"
