Trump Calls Out Ford During Rally: She Can Hardly Remember Anything

Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford

Trump ripped into Ford at a rally Tuesday night in MS, claiming that the only thing in her testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee she could remember that she only had "one beer" at the high school party in the 1980s at which she said she was sexually assaulted by Kavanaugh.

President Donald Trump speaks at a news conference on trade among the U.S., Canada and Mexico, and the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, in the Rose Garden of the White House, Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, in Washington. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., vowed again on Tuesday to vote on the nomination by the end of the week, insisting that the results of the Federal Bureau of Investigation inquiry be kept private, for senators only to see.

Trump's mockery of Ford at a campaign rally on Tuesday night intensified political pressure on senators Jeff Flake of Arizona, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of ME as they consider how they will vote on Kavanaugh. He says senators will not be intimidated by the protesters opposed to Kavanaugh who have been confronting them in the hallways of the Capitol, at airports and at their homes.

"What neighbourhood was it in? That's all I know". I don't know. I don't know.

"I had one beer!"

"I don't have any problem stating facts, no", Sanders said, snarking, "I know that is something that you probably do have a problem with".

He went on to say: "A man's life is in tatters". "I wish he hadn't had done it", Flake told NBC's Savannah Guthrie on "Today", adding, "It's kind of appalling".

Imitating her, he said: "But I had one beer - that's the only thing I remember". "The president's comments were just plain wrong", added Collins. Asked whether the President's attack would sway her vote, she answered: "I am taking everything into account". It's where Steve Doocy once told Trump he was glad they were friends, and where Brian Kilmeade remarked that Trump looked very "big" on TV.

Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, has said Friday would be too soon.

A day after the hearing, Trump had called Ford "a very credible witness" who provided "very compelling" testimony.

The FBI investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is being questioned by lawyers for two of his accusers.

FBI investigators had not reached out to a third woman who said she witnessed Kavanaugh engage in "inappropriate contact of a sexual nature with women in the early 1980s", her attorney, Michael Avenatti, wrote on Twitter early Sunday morning.

Both Kavanaugh and Judge have denied the allegations made against them.

Trump limited the investigation to no more than a week. But the memo is clearly aimed at assuaging the concerns of a handful of GOP senators who are on the fence about whether to vote to confirm Kavanaugh and are considering whose story - Ford's or Kavanaugh's - to believe.

During the rally, Trump also slammed Democrats for trying to destroy Kavanaugh.

And Mr Trump's oldest son, Donald Trump Jr, told the Daily Mail this week: "I've got boys, and I've got girls".

President Trump maliciously used that handicap against Ford at the rally. Kavanaugh testified he has never assaulted anyone.

Trump also repeatedly encouraged those in attendance to vote Republican in November and called the midterm elections, "One of the most important congressional elections of our lifetime".

FBI agents have completed a first batch of interviews of four individuals closest to the alleged events, and the White House has signaled to the bureau that it can conduct further interviews, according to the people familiar with the matter.
